GYÖRGY VASHEGYI ABOUT GYÖRGY FEKETE

It is seldom given in the life of a cultural politician that the creation of two dominant cultural institutions have been tied to his name. György Fekete was given this: he was one of the founders, then the first president of the National Cultural Fund, then almost two decades later he was instrumental when the Hungarian Academy of Arts became a public body, and he was its president for two terms. We asked György Vashegyi, who followed him in this post in 2017.

Exhibition of HAA in Berlin

The unique and large-scale fine art exhibition of HAA – which first opened on 5 July with the title Verstrichene Zeit – Elapsing Time in the Museum of Modern Arts in Passau (Museum Moderner Kunst), then travelled to Stuttgart in October 2019 – can now be seen in Berlin in the Hungarian Cultural Institute, the Collegium Hungaricum from 12 December 2019. The exhibition was opened by the President of HAA, György Vashegyi, then the director of Collegium Hungaricum, Márta Nagy made a welcoming speech.

Visit to the Ottoman Empire

A book of photographs by Dezso Bozoky (1871–1957 ) entitled Visit to the Ottoman Empire has been published by the Publishing House of HAA in cooperation between HAA and Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts. The book launch was held on 10 December at the Museum of Fine Arts. Speeches were made by Györgyi Fajcsák, the director of Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts, Tamás Gergely Kucsera, the Secretary General of HAA and a lecture was given on the Ottoman Empire by Gábor Fodor, historian, turcologist and director of Hungarian Institute in Istanbul. Turkisch mystical music was played by Marilia Pilti, Márton Kopcsik and János Gerzson János.

Sir Roger Scruton's Beauty in Hungarian

The book entitled Beauty written by Sir Roger Scruton, the conservative philosopher and writer has been published by the of HAA's Research Institute for Art Theory and Methodology. At the book launch at the office building of HAA on 20 November a welcome speech was made by Tamás Gergely Kucsera, the Secretary-General of HAA and the book was presented by the editors of the book, Miklós Kocsis, the director of HHA's Research Institute for Art Theory and Methodology, Márton Falusi, a researcher of the Institute as well as Ferenc Horkay Hörcher, an aesthete and historian of ideas. The book has been translated by István Orosz.

General assembly of HAA

The second regular general assembly of HAA was held on 3 December at the Vigadó, the centre of HAA this year. The public body chose 16 regular members (formerly they were all corresponding members) and 17 corresponding members. Last time the public body chose new members in 2017.
