New Artists of the Nation in 2020

The assignment of the Artist of the Nation Awards is decided upon by the Artist of the
Nation Award Committee consisting of eleven artists with the Kossuth State Awards. The award is given to provide appropriate living conditions for personalities with high artistic accomplishment and reputation.

Commemorative session of émigré writer, Zoltán Szabó

A memorial conference on Zoltán Szabó (1912–1984) was held by the Section of Art Theory of HAA at Vigadó, the centre of HAA on 10 May 2018. The work of the Hungarian writer, editor, radio and village researcher having lived in exile in London for almost 40 years was presented and analyzed by the invited lecturers including Zoltán Bertha, Ibolya Cs. Nagy, Magda A. Szabó, Zsuzsa Szabó, Tamás Gergely Kucsera, the Secretary-General of HAA and Mátyás Sárközi.

John Malkovich at Műcsarnok, the institution of HAA

World-famous American actor, John Malkovich led a guided tour of Sandro Miller's exhibition Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich – Homage to Photographic Masters' in the Kunsthalle on 22 May 2018. He was greeted by the management of Kunsthalle and the Secretary-General of HAA, Tamás Gergely Kucsera, who presented John Malkovich some artistic books of HAA after the program.

New book on director Ferenc Kósa

A monograph has been published on the outstanding Hungarian film director, Ferenc Kósa by HAA with the title Preserve the Man. The book consists of recollections, analyses, interviews, documents and special texts published for the first time as well as a DVD supplement. Ferenc Kósa, who started his career in the 1960's, played a major role in the renewal of Hungarian cinematography.

80 Hussars in Tarnów

The monumental historic film entitled 80 Hussars (1978), written by late great Hungarian poet Sándor Csoóri and Artist of the Nation, Sándor Sára and directed by Sándor Sára, was screened in Kino Marzenie in Tarnów in digitally renewed form on 9 July 2018. After that an exhibition on the participation of Polish people in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848/49 was opened in the museum of the town, Muzeum Okręgowe w Tarnowie.
