Attila Csikós passed away
Regular member of MMA, architect, set and costume designer as well as life member and master artist of the State Opera House, Attila Csikós passed away after a lingering illness on 8 February in his 75th year of age. MMA considers his passing as losing one of its own.
The Two Haydns' Final Masses
MMA was one of the sponsors of the special performance of Joseph and Michael Haydn's Final Masses (Harmoniemesse, Hob. XXII:14, St. Francis Mass, MH 826) at Müpa in Budapest on 7 February. The conductor was György Vashegyi, corresponding member of MMA and leader and founder of Orfeo Orchestra and the Purcell Choir.
A Thread of Prayers
A memorial exhibition of Anna Kubinyi (1949-2015), textile artist and winner of several awards can be seen until the end of March at Vigadó, centre of MMA. Winner of Kossuth, Prima Primissima and Hungarian Heritage Awards, Anna Kubinyi was an outstanding figure of Hungarian textile arts. This exhibition is focusing on her work entitled The Prayer Textile from Csíksomlyó.
Mondonville on special CD
After a successful performance of the almost forgotten opera of Mondonville, entitled Isbé at Müpa in Budapest last year György Vashegyi, corresponding member of MMA and his ensembles, the Orfeo Orchestra and the Purcell Choir made a CD from their concert with international cooperation. The title role is taken by British soprano Katherine Watson, while Isbé's other suitor, Coridon, is sung by tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen.
