Photo exhibition of Edit Molnár

The people of Gyepsor

The exhibition of Edit Molnár's photos has opened on 10 July at Vigadó Gallery with the title The People of Gyepsor [Green Row] Yesterday and Today.
Highly acclaimed photographer and member of MMA, Edit Molnár took a great number of photos in Balmazújváros (a town in Hajdú-Bihar county, in the Northern Great Plain region of Eastern Hungary) and in its vicinity in the 1970's and the exhibition consist of a selection of these photos, around 50-60 pieces.
These series of photos were inspired by the work, homeland and personality of one of the major Hungarian writers of the 20th century, Péter Veres (1897-1970).
The welcoming speech was given by MMA president György Fekete and the opening speech was made by Klára Szarka photography historian. Singer Laura Faragó and actor Gyula Szersén also participated in the event, and the latter read out excerpts from the book by Péter Veres entitled Marshland.
MMA has published a two-language (Hungarian and English) booklet for the exhibition, which can been seen until 20 September.

Edit Molnár was born in Genk, Belgium in 1933. She is most known for her portrait photos of famous Hungarian artists from the areas of literature, music and fine art. Her working method was characterized by her patient way of getting on good terms with her models and afterwards taking photos of them at the right moments. Her most active years were between 1950 and 1997. Besides her numerous exhibitions four volumes of her photographs and writings have been published.
