It is seldom given in the life of a cultural politician that the creation of two dominant cultural institutions have been tied to his name. György Fekete was given this: he was one of the founders, then the first president of the National Cultural Fund, then almost two decades later he was instrumental when the Hungarian Academy of Arts became a public body, and he was its president for two terms. We asked György Vashegyi, who followed him in this post in 2017.
Young talents on the stage of MMA
Cooperating with the Career Office of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music the Section of Music of MMA has undertook the task of organizing performances of the most talented musical students on the Sinkovits Chameber Stage of the Vigadó, centre of MMA. The program series began with the concert of Mihály Demeniv (accordion) on 6 March. The next concert is going to be that of Eszter Karasszon (cello) and Mira Farkas (harp) on 10 April. The concerts are admission free, but registration is needed.
Mecal Film Festival in Barcelona with Hungary and MMA
Between 14 March and 2 April the Mecal Film Festival in Barcelona is taking place, the international festival of short and animation films, where the guest country is Hungary this time during the three week period when about five thousand short and animation films can be seen. The Spanish and Catalan audience can get to know Hungarian animation through a roll-up exhibition organized by MMA and entitled "Hungarian Animation 100" and through the lectures of Orosz István, Líviusz Gyulai, Béla Ternovszky, Ferenc Rofusz and Ferenc Varsányi.
National Salon in 2017
Opening on 22 April 2017, the new exhibition of the National Salon series organized by MMA and its institution, Műcsarnok (Kunsthalle) and entitled All Around Us is offering an overview of design and applied art of the past decade.
Memorial year of Zoltán Kodály
The Hungarian government has announced this year as the Kodály memorial year, because the great master died 50 years ago and was born 135 years ago. Throught the year there are going to be several concerts, programs and conferences in memory of Zoltán Kodály and proclaiming his heritage in Hungary as well as over the borders.
