It is seldom given in the life of a cultural politician that the creation of two dominant cultural institutions have been tied to his name. György Fekete was given this: he was one of the founders, then the first president of the National Cultural Fund, then almost two decades later he was instrumental when the Hungarian Academy of Arts became a public body, and he was its president for two terms. We asked György Vashegyi, who followed him in this post in 2017.
13th Kecskemét Animation Film Festival
KAFF took place between 21 and 25 June 2017 for the 13th time. MMA was one of sponsors of the event and the several works of MMA's members was screened, such as those of Marcell Jankovics, István Orosz and Líviusz Gyulai. In addition to KAFF the 10th European Animated Feature Films and TV-films hosted a venue for the European feature animations, tv-specials and tv-series in separate categories.
Gusztáv Merényi's collection of porcelain coffee sets
Műcsarnok (Kunsthalle), the institution of MMA is hosting an exhibition of the finest pieces of Gusztáv Merényi's collection of porcelain coffee sets between 21 June and 3 September. The display has been organised in conjunction with the grand-scale National Salon 2017 arts and design exhibition entitled All Around Us.
Painter Árpád Szabados passed away
Painter, graphic artist, educator Árpád Szabados passed away in his 73th year of age on 13 June 2017. He was a regular member of MMA. MMA regards his death as losing one of its own.
Lifework exhibition of Pál Gerzson at Vigadó
Pál Gerzson (1931–2008) was an outstanding and original figure of Hungarian painting in the second half of the 20th century and he was a posthumous honorary member of MMA as well as one of the founding members of it as a social organization. His lifework exhibition can be seen between 15 June and 31 July at Vigadó, centre of MMA, on the 6th floor.
