GYÖRGY VASHEGYI ABOUT GYÖRGY FEKETE

It is seldom given in the life of a cultural politician that the creation of two dominant cultural institutions have been tied to his name. György Fekete was given this: he was one of the founders, then the first president of the National Cultural Fund, then almost two decades later he was instrumental when the Hungarian Academy of Arts became a public body, and he was its president for two terms. We asked György Vashegyi, who followed him in this post in 2017.

Monograph on András Balla

Section of Film and Photography of MMA has started its monograph series on acclaimed photographers. The first volume is on András Balla and is richly illustrated with photos by the artist. The monograph, which is divided into four chapters, has been written by László Fábián. The foreword has been written by Tibor Wehner. At the book launch in Vigadó on 27 September György Szemadám, member of the Presidium of MMA talked about the artist and the book.

Cooperation between MMA and National Film Fund

The Hungarian Academy of Arts and the Hungarian National Film Fund have made a framework agreement for the long-term preservation, restoration and dissemination of the national film wealth and film culture. Under the cooperation agreement signed on 22 August 2017 MMA contributes to the long-term digitalization and renovation program of the Hungarian National Film Archive, which operates as the directorship of the Film Fund.

Personal Space - exhibition in Istambul

A large-scale fine art exhibition entitled Personal Space opened on 14 September 2017 at the Hungarian Cultural Centre in Istambul organized by the Section of Fine Art of MMA as a joint event of the International Istanbul Biennial. The display is giving a comprehensive picture of the works of outstanding Hungarian fine artists living at home and beyond the border in neighbouring countries. The display can be seen until 12 November 2017.

Fábri Studios in the Film Factory

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Hungarian Film Factory (Mafilm) a celebration took place and from then on studios 3 and 4 would be bearing the name of famous Hungarian director Zoltán Fábri (1917-1994). At these studios the Hungarian National Film Fund and MMA placed a memorial plaque in honour of the great film director, born also a hundred years ago, and who is a posthumous honorary member of MMA. Acclaimed Hungarian film personalities attending the celebration also commemorated on the recently deceased famous director, Károly Makk.
