Art historian Katalin Dávid celebrating her hundredth birthday

On 16 August Katalin Dávid, the Széchenyi Grand Prize winner, internationally renowned art historian, art writer and regular member of HAA became a centenarian. In her best-known works the epoch-making figure in the history of Christian culture in Hungary explored the world of Christian iconography and biblical symbols.

István Hildebrand passed away

István Hildebrand, a cinematographer, director and an Artist of the Nation as well as a regular member of HAA passed away on 29 March 2022 at the age of 93. He was a major figure in Hungarian and universal film history. He was an experimental cinematographer of Hungarian film in all genres, one of the most talented members of his generation. He was an individual whose work is characterized by richness of form, plastic lighting effects, well-chosen settings and reliable technology, as well as a masterful performer of brilliant, innovative technical solutions and optical tricks. He approached each of his projects from the angle of what the visuals, the experience of the big screen could add to the story.

National week at Expo2020 Dubai

As part of the official event in Al Wasl Plaza the cultural palette of Hungary was presented through the dance performance of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and the Ballet Company of Győr on 18 March. The Hungarian artists presented a performance from the Hungarian and Arabic collections of Béla Bartók. The celebrations continued into the evening at the Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre with performances by other Hungarian artists.

Exhibitions of scholarship winners

In 2018 HAA launched its three-year artistic scholarship program with significant allowances for the winning applicants. The application is open to all kinds of artists, performers as well as art theory researchers.

Posterra - V4 exhibition in Helsinki and Pilsen

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the establishing of the Visegrad Group, HAA arranged an international poster exhibition, which presents selected works made by outstanding poster artists of the V4 countries. Through the works of three Hungarian, three Polish, three Czech and three Slovak artists the exhibition shows the history of cultural posters featuring national characteristics and symbols.
