Imre Benkő's subjective documentarism

The exhibition entitled True Visions in Műcsarnok (Kunsthalle), the institution of HAA is presenting six decades of art work of photographer, photojournalist and regular member of HAA, Imre Benkő through two hundred and fifty, mostly black-and-white photographs. The exhibition, curated by Zsuzsanna Tulipán, can be viewed between 23 February and 7 April.

HAA's exhibition in Rome

The title of the exhibition, Don't Be Afraid, organized in collaboration with HAA and scheduled at the Hungarian Academy in Rome, is borrowed from Pope John Paul II, who in turn made use of the words of Jesus. The exhibition has been arranged on the occasion of the forthcoming 52nd International Eucharistic Congress and is to be open in Rome until the World Summit in Budapest on 10 September. Besides, on 1 September a parallel exhibition is to open at Vigadó, the centre of HAA. The works of almost forty artists can be seen from 27 May until the autumn.

Sándor Gál passed away

Sándor Gál, Attila József Award winning writer, poet, editor, outstanding artist and organizer of Hungarian literature and Hungarian literary life in the Highlands (Slovakia) died on 28 May 2021, aged 84. He was a regular member of HAA. From the beginning his colorful and long creative career gave space not only for all genres, from poetry to prose to drama, but also for almost every genre, including fiction and journalism as well. He had an active and prolific life, a rich and voluminous oeuvre. According to some monographs and manuals he is one of the most read authors of Slovak Hungarian literature. HAA regards his passing as losing one of its own.

Marcell Jankovics passed away

Marcell Jankovics who was an Artist of the Nation, a regular member, a former Vice-President and honorary President of HAA passed away aged 80. The academy praised Jankovics as a "visual artist and public figure, a scholar of fairy tales ... with an exceptionally wide-ranging, varied work. His oevre remains an important part of Hungarian culture," the statement said. His works include full-length animation films such as Janos vitez (John the Valiant), Feherlofia and The Tragedy on Man, all re-imaginings of well-known Hungarian tales and dramas. He also directed an animated series of Hungarian fairy tales. HAA is deeply mourning him and regards his passing as losing one of its own.

Relational Images

Ferenc Baráth, a Munkácsy Award winning graphic artist and a regular member of the HAA is summing up his 75 years in art with an oeuvre exhibition. The exhibition at Vigadó is presenting the most important works from the seventies to the present day, from the beginning of his career to the most mature works. However, the summary is further inspiration for the in-depth work of the coming years. His artistic success is mostly related to theatre poster design and spatial graphics.
