COLLECTIONS OF HAA IN BEIJING
The Hungarian Academy of Art is presenting itself with a grand-scale exhibition in Beijing at the Today Art Museum. The display, which consists of works of fine, applied, design and folk arts is lasting from 14 May until 10 June 2018. A year ago we received the painting and calligraphy exhibition of our brother institution, the Chinese National Academy of (CNAA) at Vigadó, the centre of HAA. Fulfilling the invitation of the Chinese partner, the Hungarian art scene can be seen in the well-known contemporary exhibition venure of the capital, and the exhibition of HAA is a selection of major works of recent years.

Pannonia Film Studio reopened

The famous Pannonia Film Studio, citadel of Hungarian animation has been reopened after it was closed in 2000. The opening ceremony on 9 March 2017 was attended, among others, by László Kövér, President of the Hungarian Parliament.

Television and public taste

The Section of Film Arts and Photography of MMA organized a two-day conference entitled Television and Public Taste - The Chances of Art in the Television Culture of the 21th Century. The event took place at the centre of MMA, the Vigadó on 20 and 21 February.

Károly Simon died

Design artist and member of MMA, Károly Simon died on 5 March 2017 in his 75th year of age. He was the chair of the Section of Applied Arts and Design of MMA. His oeuvre is an integral part of the history of the applied arts and design of modern Hungary. MMA regards his death as losing one of its own. The funeral ceremony for Simon Károly is going to be held on 18 April in the Farkasrét Cemetery in Budapest.

János Arany Memorial Year

The year 2017 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest Hungarian poets, János Arany. 2017 has been declared as the János Arany Memorial Year by the Hungarian Parliament and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). The patron of the memorial year is László Lovász, President of MTA. MMA is supporting the Poetry Festival this year.
