The Hungarian Academy of Art is presenting itself with a grand-scale exhibition in Beijing at the Today Art Museum. The display, which consists of works of fine, applied, design and folk arts is lasting from 14 May until 10 June 2018. A year ago we received the painting and calligraphy exhibition of our brother institution, the Chinese National Academy of (CNAA) at Vigadó, the centre of HAA. Fulfilling the invitation of the Chinese partner, the Hungarian art scene can be seen in the well-known contemporary exhibition venure of the capital, and the exhibition of HAA is a selection of major works of recent years.
Fábri Studios in the Film Factory
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Hungarian Film Factory (Mafilm) a celebration took place and from then on studios 3 and 4 would be bearing the name of famous Hungarian director Zoltán Fábri (1917-1994). At these studios the Hungarian National Film Fund and MMA placed a memorial plaque in honour of the great film director, born also a hundred years ago, and who is a posthumous honorary member of MMA. Acclaimed Hungarian film personalities attending the celebration also commemorated on the recently deceased famous director, Károly Makk.
Sebastião Salgado: Genesis
Genesis is the third long-term series on global issues by world-renowned photographer Sebastião Salgado (born Brazil, 1944), following Workers (1993) and Migrations (2000). The result of an eight-year worldwide survey, the exhibition draws together more than 200 spectacular black and white photographs of wildlife, landscapes, seascapes, and indigenous peoples—raising public awareness about the pressing issues of environment and climate change. Open from 2017. September 6. to November 12. in Műcsarnok (Kunsthalle, Budapest).
Danube Arena photo competition closed
The photo competition of the Danube Arena, main venue of the 2017 FINA World Championships ended with the judgement of the best pictures selected from 350 works of almost a hundred photographers. The competition was co-organized by MMA.
State honours and professional awards
On 18 August state honours and professional awards were presented by the Minister of Human Resources, Zoltán Balog together with Secretary of State for Culture, Péter Hoppál in the Vigadó, centre of MMA on the feast day of the Founder of Hungary, Saint Stephen. Gábor Czakó, writer, thinker and regular member of MMA was handed over the Order of Merit Commander Cross (civilian division) for his high- level work. Secretary General of MMA, Tamás Gergely Kucsera was handed over the Order of Merit Knight's Cross (civilian division) also for his high-level work.
